A unique tailor-made week-end, one year Management Program for owner-entrepreneurs and their family members who would like to equip themselves with the knowledge of modern management concepts and practices. This knowledge will enable them to meet the new age challenges and seize the emerging business opportunities. The week-end structure of the program ideally suits those who are already involved in the running of their family businesses. The FMBA Program trains the students to act as CHANGE AGENTS for their family businesses, where two or more generations work together.
FACULTY
Highly qualified faculty with rich experience of working in business and industry. They tailor-make their presentations and also interact with the students on one-to-one basis.
PROGRAMME DESIGN
The program, in FOUR MODULES, spread over two semesters, introduces entrepreneurs to modern concepts and practices in various functional areas of management. At the same time, soft skills, such as communication and networking skills, together with customer and supplier relationship are taught to enhance the participant’s ‘effectiveness’ as entrepreneur-managers to initiate and lead the growth process.
Regularity of attendance, timely submission of assignments, active participation in class discussions, interaction with faculty members as well as with other participants, ensure great benefits of this unique program.

Dr. B.M. Kacholia, Senior Professor and Chairman of the FMBA Programme, is a Ph.D (Economics), Gold Medalist, MBA (Marketing), (USA), Fulbright Scholar, with 30 years’ experience in the Birla Group in senior positions. He has been associated with this programme since its inception in 1999-2000.
He is a Past-President of the Bombay Management Association (BMA) and Vice-President of the All-India Management Association (AIMA). He was a visiting faculty at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) for a number of years. He was a member of the General Body of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani for 12 years, was member of the Board of Directors of a Public Limited Company for several years.
Program Objectives
A pioneering initiative of SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)—School of Business Management—to facilitate transition from traditional to contemporary management in Family- Managed Small and Medium Enterprises.
Pedagogy
• Lectures and presentations by learned and experienced faculty form the core of the programme, supplemented by handouts and assignments.
• Students are given assignments in 4- 5 core management areas.
• A detailed project on one’s own business with a SWOT analysis. This is a COMPULSORY REQUIREMENT.
• Book discussions help everyone to better understand the modern management ideas (Faculty guidance is provided).
• Presentations by past students entrepreneurs
• Presentation of projects: by students in the class offers a great learning opportunity to all participants.
Applicant should have:

Admission Criteria Process
SELECTION PROCESS
Selection is through interviews by a panel of expert faculty and one past student. At the interview, an applicant is required to submit a letter from the head of his/her family business, sponsoring the applicant and certifying his/her actual involvement in the family business. All selected applicants have to submit a LETTER OF COMMITMENT (Draft will be supplied) on their firm’s letterheads, jointly signed by the applicants and the heads of their Family Businesses. Original education and other certificates are to be produced at the interview and at the time of admission, if selected.
SPECIAL NOTES
Selected applicant will be required to bring along a senior member of his/her family, to attend the inaugural meeting of the program. The purpose is to get the senior member’s commitment and involvement in THIS LEARNING PROGRAMME FOR PROFESSIONALISING ONE’S FAMILY BUSINESS.
Classes are held normally as per schedule. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, scheduled classes may sometimes have to be changed.
Evaluation Criteria
To earn their Diploma, students must attend classes regularly and punctually, complete & submit all assignments on time, including the Compulsory Project on their own Family Business. FAILURE ON THESE COUNTS WILL MAKE A PARTICIPANT INELIGIBLE FOR THE DIPLOMA.

F-MBA Week End (Family Business) Programme (Batch 2013)
1. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :
• A Graduate Degree from a recognized University or a Post - HSC Diploma in any discipline from a recognized Institute/University with a longer post- education Business Experience
• Diploma has to be a 3 year diploma.
• Actual involvement in one’s family business
• Good communication skill
• An intense desire to educate oneself and readiness to work hard
• Total commitment by way of regular attendance, active classroom participation and completion of assignments and projects on time
Those candidates who have cleared their graduation or post H.S.C. diploma by doing a part - time course or through distance learning/ correspondence/ externally/ open school are not eligible to apply.
2. REGISTRATION PROCESS :
Step I : Please visit the NMIMS website & fill up the online registration form for F-MBA Weekend (Family Business) with complete details.
Step II : After successful submission of online registration form candidates have to pay the registration fees of Rs.950/- (non refundable) through Demand Draft. The same details are also available in the confirmation mail sent to you on your primary email id mentioned in the online registration form.

Refund Rules on cancellation of admission :
The schedule of refund of fees will be as follows:
1. Till the date of commencement of the Program. |
Rs. 1000/- will be deducted as administrative charges |
2. After the commencement of Program but before the close of the admission. |
Rs. 1000 + Proportionate fees i.e. one tenth of the fees for every completed month or part there of, if the seat vacated by the candidate is filled. If the seat remains vacant /unfilled no fees will be refunded. |
