Credit System:
M.Sc Computer Science Programme of Karnataka State Open University is designed keeping in view the credits prescribed and recognized by the Distance Educational Council (DEC). Each course is allotted with 3 credits. Credit delinates the study hour; and 1 credit is 30 hours of study. A candidate has to earmark 90 hour per course for studies, which includes teaching, learning, library, preparation of Internal Assessment and Examination.
Internal Assessment:
Internal Assessment for M.Sc. Computer Science Programme shall consist of Assignment and Seminar. Assignment: Assignment questions will be sent to the candidates at the time of admission. The candidates have to write the assignments, tag the assignments course wise separately and put it in a A4 size postal cover, write the Name, Course, Register Number correctly on the assignment, postal cover and submit it to the co-ordinator, Academic Partner, SCOPE, premises no. 83, Bellary, Main Road, Opp. Vertinary College, Ganga Nagar, Bangalore - 24. within the stipulated time.

PATTERN OF EXAMINATION / EVALUATION

The pattern of question paper for all theory examination will consist of two parts. Part-I will be compulsory with objective / short-question type for 25 marks. Part-II will have choice (5 out of 8 questions) for 50 marks. The total will be 75 marks. Evaluation process shall be as per the norms of PG examination of KSOU.

Regarding practical examinations, there will be one practical examination by the University for each Laboratory Paper in each semester. During the practical examination, a candidate has to randomly pick any one laboratory assignments and to design and develop a program to demonstrate within the stipulated time to the examiners. There will be a panel of 2 examiners, one of which, shall be chosen from other institutes which is not affiliated to KSOU.

MINI Project
The candidate is expected to take up and independent mini project involving Problem formulation, design, implementation and testing phases that typically Explores various phase in software development. He / She is also expected practices Principles of software engineering including documents. A dissertation should be Prepared and submitted for evaluation.For Internal Assessment of 50 marks, a guide can conduct one seminar and one execution each for 25 marks for evaluation purpose. For other 50 marks, an external examiner shall be invited to conduct viva examination.

Major Project
The candidate shall expected to take up an independent major project Involving problem formulation, design, implementation and testing phases That typically explores various phases in software development. He /She is Expected to utilize the knowledge gained through various subjects studied in this programme. Further, the candidate has to inculcate the ability in Integrating and releasing a prototype (working model) of the solution to the Problem taken. The Project should be prepared and submitted for evaluation For internal Assessment of 100 marks, a guide can one seminar and seminar And one execution each for 50 marks for evaluation purpose. For other 200 Marks, and external examiner shall be invited to
GENERAL REGULATIONS

A students is permitted to register for the next higher semester after completion of a semester course, irrespective of the results in his previous semester papers.

The candidate can continue to register for higher semesters in a similar way along With his/her registration in failed subjects of earlier semesters.

Award of Degree:
Students will be eligible to get their degree certificates of M.Sc. Computer Science after successful completion of their academic programme. They will have to apply to the Register (Evaluation) along with the prescribed fee at the time of convocation to get their degree certificates. However they may be issued a provisional degree certificates, on application, soon after the announcement of the final result.
Objective: As we enter the 21st Century, the realm of electronic communication, which encompasses telecommunication, broadcasting, Information Technology and Enabled services in industries, is undergoing profound changes leading to Global Information Infrastructure (GII) . This is capable of carrying any type of Information. Information Communication Technology is increasingly powerful tool for development of Nation and transformed the way of human life as no other technology has. As India is emerging as an IT Superpower in the world, it is our responsibility to think on the advances in this area by harnessing the younger generation in IT/Computer Education. In view of this, the Karnataka State Open University is offering a Two Year semester based M.Sc. in Computer Science Degree Programme (Two Semester per year-Total Four Semesters). The programme is specifically designed for a targeting the Research and Development, Teaching and Software developing in the field of Computer Science. This programme content is designed in such a way that it can mould candidates to get their job in IT Computers and other sectors. The Karnataka State Open University's M.Sc. [Computer Science] Programme is tightly scheduled and highly structured, client centered programme that aims at developing the software professionals to keep abreast of the most recent development in the field of Computer Science for the requirements of the dynamic and highly global environment of the present era. The curriculum based on the feedback from the best programmes available in the market, aims at enriching and sharpening software developing skills. In short, the programme will develop in participants a variety of research and development and teaching skills that will lend a new edge and force to their own skills to handle myriads of challenges in the ever changing scenario of modern Software developing field. The programme also offers the much needed channel for upward mobility among practising R & D in universities / Industries / Colleges, Teaching, Professionals, Software Engineers, and Programmers, System Programmers etc., at their own workplaces. Title and Duration of the Programme:

3. Programme Structure: The programme has totally 4 semesters each for 20 credits. A candidates has to earn totally 72 credits from all 4 semesters. The 1st and 2nd semesters have 4 theory course of each 4 credits and 2 laboratory course each of 2 credits each. The 3rd semester has 3 common course of each 4 credits, an elective course of 4 credits and a mini project of 4 credits. The 4th semester has one common course of 4 credits, and a major project work of 12 credits. 4. Maximum Duration for Completing M.Sc. Computer Science Programme: A candidate who is admitted to the M.Sc. Computer Science programme shall complete the degree within twice the duration of the Programme i.e., 4 years, from the date of his/her admission failing which he has to seek admission afresh. Academic Assessment Procedure: The academic assessment in each subject is based on the Internal assessment and Term-end examinations conducted by the University. 2.
